 The oyster shells of the Battery are an exceptional treasure.  Tawny colored sand and sediment encompass to stain each shell.  The steady turning of the waves enables the development of their character and time tests the strength of their structure.  The shells have survived these rugged conditions long enough to absorb every color of the rainbow and yet still remain strong.
